Kolkata 1, India

Kolkata in August is green, wet and tropical.  Kolkata is the beloved home of Mother Teresa and the Sisters of Charity.  You may know the city as Calcutta, a name and spelling easier for the British when they claimed India as their colony, but the true Indian name and the name that is now found on the map is Kolkata.  In this city, the Sisters of Charity have nine different places where they care for the poorest of the poor.

In August of 1999 my son and I travelled to India.  Over the next few days,  in remembrance of the birthday of Mother Teresa ( August 26, 1910), I would like to share 3 short posts from my notes about visiting:

 The Home for the Dying

The Orphanage

The Mother House
